Yubikey security key u2f fido26/18/2023 ![]() I learned shortly after that there were a few shortcomings with my choice. I started out using a Titan key set from Google. Tip: A Security Key C NFC just might be the perfect choice. Well, two accounts are actually not so random I chose and memorized the strong passwords for Gmail and Bitwarden. ![]() Bitwarden offers several easy to use tools, making it easy to quickly make it so that every one of my accounts has a unique, random password. The premium version allows me to store TOTP secrets within Bitwarden, and allows me to secure my password manager account with my choice of second factor: Authenticator App (TOTP), YubiKey OTP Security Key, FIDO2 WebAuthn, Duo, and/or email. With this in mind, I determined password manager use is crucial. That leaves me with 75-80% of my accounts without a preferred option for a second factor. TOTP is a pretty good choice, too however, only about 20-25% of my accounts list it as an option. I prefer FIDO2 WebAuthn, but only about 7% of my accounts list it as an option. ![]() I want all of my accounts to be as secure as possible. Approximately 14 of those accounts allow for FIDO2 WebAuthn. Approximately 40-50 of those accounts allow for a TOTP second factor. I have approximately 200 logins registered in my password manager. I hope this is not a point of controversy. ![]() Tip: A password manager is probably a more important consideration than a security key. Lastly, I added a Security Key C NFC yesterday. I received two Titan keys one was USB-A/NFC one was NFC/Bluetooth with a micro-usb female port. My experience with security keys began a few years ago with a special offer from Google. For work, I use a Windows 10 laptop, where Microsoft Edge is the default browser, but Chrome is also installed. I primarily use a Chromebook and a Chromebook tablet at home. To start off with a bit of background I primarily use Pixel cellular telephones. I may not present all of the ideas I have in the most linear way, I will TRY, however, to tell you everything it took awhile for me to wrap my head around. Maybe even share some useful information for anyone thinking of trying out security keys for the first time. Wanted to share my experiences with security keys.
